I often wonder what we are truly up against in life. Having a conversation with a good friend yesterday regarding a tragedy in our small town, he made a statement that has stayed with me all night and today. Hauntingly.
One second. One second to click a seat belt. One second faster leaving a stop sign. One second slower getting to a stop sign. One second later leaving. One second earlier leaving.
What comes in to play to make that one second count? A series of events that are either stacked for us or stacked against us at any given time. A series of events that we have no control over, from beginning to end. The plan already set in motion in another time, a second ago. Something so perfect has to be aligned to create that one, life-changing second. Not one thing can go wrong in the seconds leading up to that second.
Whatever higher power you believe in, believe in that higher power today. For one minute, one moment, one second. Hold your children tighter. Love them every minute, every moment, every second. Smile at a stranger for one minute, one moment, one second. One second of positive will hopefully lesson the pain of that one second of life-altering tragedy.
It only takes one second.
